I haven’t read Pushing the Limits (though now I want to) and I didn’t have any trouble following this second book in the series. To say Dare You To blew me away is an understatement. This is not your typical YA/NA romance where the romance is the plot, and the biggest part of the story.
This is a deeply moving, captivating and at times heartbreaking character journey for two people who have had to deal with so much more than anyone ever should. The relationship is weaved into the plot, it is an integral part of the plot, and while I wanted them to make it and manage to be together, what I wanted more than anything was for them to each find away to banish their inner demons and become whole, with or without each other. And I think that was a lot of what made this story so different – it wasn’t a will they or won’t they be together kind of story. It was about them becoming functioning human beings with a chance at happiness.
It was gritty, and raw, and expertly written. The characters are well rounded and never flat. The plot is twisty, turny, and tragically captivating. Definitely a must read.
