Feature and Follow – Why I blog

Another Friday is here and this week’s Feature and Follow question is perfectly timed.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish with your blog? Is it to one day become an author yourself, just for fun, maybe get some online attention, or maybe something very different?

I started my blog because I was preparing to publish my first book. It felt it was really important not only to give myself an avenue to market myself, but to give my readers a place to connect with me.
Growing up as a reader, authors never really seemed like approachable, accessible people, and I want to make sure that I am not seen that way. Whether a fan wants to connect with me on Twitter, Facebook or here on my blog, I am there.
I just released my book, Cornerstone this week and I’ve really enjoyed connecting with readers this week, above others because I have been incredibly touched with the outpouring of support through my tremendous nerves.
I’ve been humbled when fans have told me they purchased my book. I’ve been grateful when others have shared my posts, and mostly, I’ve been glad to have somewhere online to consider my “author home.”
I’m also doing a giveaway to celebrate, so while you are here, enter to win a $10 gift card. The giveaway ends 11/2, the same day my blog tour starts. (And I do still have a few openings for tour dates, contact me if you’re interested. There is an email me button on the right sidebar.

One thing I’ve also noticed is that it can be difficult for indie authors to get their names out and there is just so much to learn. Several authors have inspired me and encouraged me and impressed me, so I want to give back to them. Starting this week, I will be doing an Indie Inspiration spotlight. This week, I have YA author Dalya Moon.
If there is interest from other bloggers, I’ll turn it into a hop, but at the very least, each week I will be interviewing an inspirational indie author.
